BLOG POST – PRESENTATIONS

TYPES

DESCRIBE 3 Examples EACH of formal and informal (6 altogether)

Informal presentations are those in which the language is not only less technical and more inclusive for the general public, but also has a greater participation by the audience. An interactive dynamic is established between the communicator and their respective public.

The formal oral presentation, on the other hand, is generally given by specialists on the subject they address and is focused on the presentation of a specific topic of interest to the target audience. In these cases, the audience is not invited to initiate a participation that could lead to a debate or conversation.

Formal presentations follow an appropriate structure and order for the presentations, often supported by digital media in order to achieve greater efficiency in their informative communicative function. Examples of formal presentations we could say that they are those made by technology companies, such as those of the Apple Company, where certain device or software might be presented to an audience and the reason behind such development, this would not be an event where the audience participates with feedback or questions. Scientific presentations, such as those organized by different universities, TED talks, led by professionals in different fields.  Again, there is no interaction between the attendants the person leading the presentation.

In the case of informal presentations, we could say that some debates on television programs have a very informal dynamic, not only because of the content involved, but also because of the interaction between the speakers, the type of language used and the style of debate. Another type of informal presentation is the one we see in comedy shows, where the comedian usually interacts with the audience and seeks approval and complicity. In addition, to this list we can add the scientific cafés that take place in different places and countries, which despite being of a serious nature, the level of participation of the attendees, turn them into informal meetings or presentations.

The presentations can be very visual, in this case they are supported by digital technology to be carried out. The type of presentation will depend on its purpose. For example, when they have an educational or informative function, they can be aimed at personal growth or working on the emotional aspect of individuals according to objectives, such as training to lead teams in the company or interact with employees, etc.

Examples of the different styles mentioned can be tutorials with students or those interested in a subject, where an issue would be dealt with in greater depth.  Another example that would be some videos on Youtube, where a specific case is reported and a personal analysis is made about it. It could also be a meeting with commercial purposes, where a presentation and demonstrations of the different uses of a specific product are made and sometimes the audience participates in checking and demonstrating them.

SKILLS

General paragraph or 2 on skills required to deliver a successful presentation.

For a successful presentation, it is important to be able to have a balanced rhythm of the oratory, avoid fixing our attention on a single section or person in the audience, avoid impulsive movements and noises, normally due to the speaker's nerves, they distract the audience and cause comprehension difficulties, given the noise of the interference. It is also important that the speech has well-defined objectives, follows a structure and a logical order. In addition, you must have the relevant knowledge to address the possible doubts of any attendee, in the case of a presentation where speaker participation with the audience is allowed. It is important that our image is neat and that we present ourselves with the appropriate attire for the occasion. Long pauses are not beneficial, talking too fast is also counterproductive. Communication is effective and successful when it achieves its purpose efficiently, therefore, the audience can understand what is exposed. To be able to carry out a successful presentation, it is very important to know the subject that we are talking about well, so as not to give an impression of lack of knowledge, not being professional and generate dissatisfaction to the audience.
